Charles Quef was born in Lille in 1859. He studied in Paris with Dubois, Widor and Guilmant, among others, whose assistant organist he became. After Guilmant’s death in 1901, Quef followed him as titular organist at Sainte-Trinité in Paris, where he remained until his death in 1931.
