Update: No shipping to the USA

Facts in brief:

  • The shipment of printed editions to the United States remains suspended.
  • The reason for this is significantly more complicated shipping and customs conditions.
  • There will be an alternative solution for loyal regular customers.
  • Digital editions remain available worldwide.

 


 

Unfortunately, we are currently unable to offer shipping of physical editions to the United States (downloads remain available). This is due to changes in US customs and import regulations. Our logistics partner suspended parcel and goods shipments to the United States some time ago. DHL now offers some products again, but we are not (yet) able to resume shipping. 

We hope you understand and would therefore like to briefly explain where the problems lie:

  • Effective immediately, revised customs duties of 15% apply. Until recently, this would not have been an issue, as the United States had an exemption limit of €800 for goods. The US administration has now lifted this exemption.
  • Customs and import duties must now be paid in advance by the sender. This means that we have to determine the customs costs before shipping, which requires interfaces with third-party providers in order to always be able to provide the current conditions. As is well known, short-term changes are currently to be expected in the USA.
  • This means that we cannot provide up-to-date shipping and processing costs in our web shop. However, we are obliged to provide this transparent price information in accordance with EU law.
  • It is currently completely unclear what will happen to undeliverable or uncollected parcels, whether the customs duties and fees paid for them will be refunded, and what fees will be incurred. This makes it impossible to calculate second deliveries.
  • Additional fees such as the harbour maintenance fee (HMF) and the merchandise processing fee (MPF) will also have to be paid by the sender in future. The amount of these fees is also subject to constant change and can therefore only be integrated by a technically connected third-party provider, which entails additional costs.
  • These complications currently apply exclusively to the USA. We do not have to ship to any other country under similarly complicated conditions. Therefore, our shop system is in no way prepared for this.


We have had many loyal customers in the United States for many years. That is why these new conditions hurt us, because they make delivery impossible. We will not be able to offer shipping to the United States again in the foreseeable future.

We will soon be able to offer an alternative solution to our long-standing customers, whose delivery reliability we can assess accurately. However, we are no longer able to offer this service to new customers from the USA. We apologise for any inconvenience and hope for your understanding.
