Works and editions by Hurlstone, William Y. (1876-1906)
William Martin Yeates Hurlstone, born in London in 1876, was a hope recognised by great composers: his teacher Charles Villiers Stanford described him as his most gifted pupil, Hubert Parry was already impressed by the boy's musicality. Hurlstone initially studied self-taught, but was soon awarded a scholarship to the Royal Collage of Music - where he studied with Holst, Bridge and Vaughan-Williams. After graduation he worked as a correpititor, teacher and conductor. He was also very active as a composer, and his works were widely acclaimed. However, William Hurlstone died at the age of 30 as a result of his asthma.
