Paul Combes was born in Cuxac-d'Aude, Occitania. He trained as an organist at the Paris Ecole Niedermeyer and later worked there as a professor. Joseph Bonnet was one of his students.From 1880 he was organist in Bergerac before he worked at various churches in Bordeaux. From 1901 until his death in 1921 he was titular organist at the great organ of Notre-Dame de Bordeaux.Combes created numerous instrumental and vocal works. The toccatina presented here is still popular today.
