Jules Henri Bouval was born in Toulouse in 1867. In Paris, he studied organ and composition with Théodore Dubois, Jules Massenet and César Franck, among others. After his studies, he became organist at the Saint-Pierre de Chaillot church in Paris. Bouval's compositions were well received during his lifetime, especially the collections "L'Office du matin" and "L'Office du soir" for harmonium or organ, which combine the small form, easily playable even by part-time organists, with musical originality unusual for this genre.
