Works and editions by Ponce, Manuel M. (1882-1948)

The Mexican Mario Maria Ponce was considered a child prodigy at an early age. He first studied at the National Conservatory in Mexico and later in Bologna, Berlin and Paris with Paul Dukas, among others. He is considered one of Brazil's most important composers. His little Intermezzo No. 1 from 1919, modelled on late Romanticism, is still a much-played work today, also as an encore piece for the virtuosos. The other two thoroughly modernist intermezzi have not been able to assert themselves alongside it.
