Pièces et editions de Schumann, Georg (1866-1952)

Georg Schumann was born in the Erzgebirge region of Saxony as the son of a town music director; one of his brothers was the composer Camillo Schumann. Georg studied in Dresden and later, at the suggestion of Carl Reinecke, at the Leipzig Conservatory. There he met Liszt, Brahms, Mahler, Bruch and other personalities whose influences can be found in his work.
Schumann worked as a conductor in Danzig and Bremen, eventually becoming director of the Berlin Singakademie and president of the Prussian Academy of Arts. Here he also led the master class in composition. In addition to his teaching activities, he was active in musicians' associations and worked throughout his life as a successful composer in a wide variety of genres.
