Pièces et editions de Strohl, Rita (1865-1941)

Rita Strohl was born in Lorient, Brittany, in 1865. She began playing the piano very early and was admitted to the Paris Conservatoire at the age of 13. She studied piano and composition and was celebrated by composers such as Saint-Saëns and Fauré. However, she had little professional success. A theatre she and her husband founded went bankrupt, and she was unable to break through with her often mythical compositions. She died in depression and seclusion in Provence in 1941. Despite the high quality of her work, it has been largely forgotten, if it was published at all. Only the cello sonata, now available in print again for the first time, is considered an insider tip of high dramaturgical substance.
