Gustave Ferrari was born in Geneva in 1872. He studied music at the conservatories in his hometown and in Paris. He first worked as a bandmaster at various operetta stages, later establishing himself as a piano accompanist and also as a singer. He composed stage works, but also much organ music, the latter in an elaborate impressionistic style.
